8 Year Old Boy Pepper-Sprayed By Police

What does an eight-year-old boy have to do to get pepper-sprayed by police officers?

In Denver Colorado, police were called to an elementary school where a child was spitting and cussing at his teacher. The boy, Aiden, also allegedly threw a television and threatened to kill the teachers.

When cops arrived to the scene, the boy allegedly became violent and grabbed a sharp piece of wood. According to Daily Mail, he ripped the piece of wood off the wall because he "wanted to make something sharp if they came out because I was so mad at them."

Officers say the boy then tried to stab them, that is when they felt they needed to spray him. "It burned my eyes and I couldn't see," said Aiden.

After the eight-year-old was sprayed, he was arrested and put in handcuffs. The mother of the child says police were called on her son two times before and the officers overreacted.

She said the officers should have showed restraint due to his age. The police department however is standing behind the officers use of the pepper-spray.

Do you think the police officers used excessive force or was it justified for the situation?
Should the mother be held responsible for her sons actions?

What else could the officer have done? They didn't taze him or baton him. The pepper spray Is used to subdue hostel suspects. The boy was acting threatening toward teacher and even officers. The only reason why mom is mad is because she has aloud this behavior. She's trying to justify her sons bad behavior and her bad parenting. I totally agree with the officers decision.

the mom is probably just embarrassed by her son's actions! i mean, where could he possibly be learning this stuff at such a young age? HIS PARENTS! whether they are like that or not, it is still their fault. they are allowing him to possibly watch violent movies/television, or play violent video games where he is learning such behavior. i totally agree with what the officers did. like someone said earlier, it's not like they tazed him, or physically hurt him. the mom needs to take a chill pill, and give one to her son too ;)

The kid is actually in a special school for children who have emotional and social behavioral problems. Although he hasnt been diagnosed with a mental condition yet, he probably has one, so it might not be completely his mother's fault. However, i believe that the officers were completey in the right to pepper spray him. A full grown man getting in a quarrel with an enraged 8 year old kid holding something that is considered a weapon would be risking having him harm himself or the officer. the use of pepperspray prevented any serious physical harm.
