Friends, Family Remember Teen Killed in Accident Tuesday Morning

Family and friends paid tribute to a teenager who was killed in a suspected DUI accident Tuesday morning. The girl was left behind by the driver and another passenger inside the car.

The accident occurred around 2 a.m. on Florin Road, after the three young adults were leaving a house party. That's when Sacramento police say the 20-year-old driver of the Honda Civic crashed into a parked truck, killing 17-year-old Maricela Baza.

She had just graduated last week from Calvine High School and friends say she was taking summer classes at Sacramento City College.

Investigators say after the driver crashed, he and another passenger fled the scene, leaving Maricela behind. The driver was found on a neighbor's driveway unconscious. He and the second passenger were taken to a hospital for non-critical injuries.

At the crash site, family and friends set up candles, flowers and balloons in remembrance of the 17-year-old. The driver was booked on charges of vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence.
