LAPD Helicopter Hit By Gunfire
While responding to a shots-fired call in Van Nuys, an LAPD helicopter was shot by a semi-automatic rife. The helicopter was assisting police on the ground looking for the suspect when the gunman took aim and fired. The pilot had to make an emergency landing at the Van Nuys airport but was not injured along with his observer.
Police received a 9-1-1 call saying there was a man firing a gun around 6 a.m. A detective said the suspect was restrained by his family members and the alleged rife was taken in by police.
The helicopter was taken downtown on a flat-bed truck to be repaired and investigated.
