KFBK - A new drug of choice is getting more popular in Sacramento County - especially with the younger crowd.
Heroin, also known as smack or black tar, is gaining steam in Sacramento. And with the sudden death of actor Phillip Seymour Hoffman from an apparent heroin drug overdose, the narcotic is back in the spot light. Jon Daily is the clinical director of Recovery Happens, a rehab facility. He says heroin is becoming more prevalent - especially in teenagers and young adults.
Daily says Sacramento County has gone through phases of drugs before. In 2001 vicodin and codeine saw a rise - then oxycontin had its run about three to six years ago.
