KFBK - The Department of Education is talking about a new rating system for colleges and it's aimed at helping students find which college works best for them.
Congress members John Garamendi and Ami Bera, along with other education leaders are talking about creating a college scorecard, that's divided into categories, such as how long it takes students to graduate and affordability.
This will be both a way for students to find the value offered by colleges and to also encourage colleges to improve.
UC Davis Chancelor Linda Katehi says the Department of Education knows the challenges up ahead and the need for this information."And at the same time, they do understand that accountability is extremely important. So I am very hopeful, and I will remain hopeful until I see the rating system and how it's going to develop," she said.
Since this rating system is in the beginning stages with roundtable discussions, Katehi says it might take a year or longer for it to be up and running.
